The choice of flooring is one of the major aspects that is involved in interior designing and can easily make or break the appearance of your room. A room that is decorated with the most attractive accessories, but does not have the right kind of flooring can yet appear dull and devoid of freshness! A simple room can be given a luxurious and stylish look by using attractive flooring patterns even if not much of furniture or other decorations are used. The type of flooring used can define the mood of the room decor. For instance the type of flooring used in a kids' play room will be entirely different from that used in a study area.

Marble, granite, mosaic, timber floorings etc are used very commonly. Marble provide high degree of sophistication and grandeur, but are expensive. They are used almost everywhere; right from homes to residential complexes to maternity centers and areas of worship. This type of flooring has to be taken care of since it can show stains very easily and also stand the risk of getting tarnished with time. Traditionally they were available only in white, but now are available in a few more shades to suit all room types.
Timber or wooden floorings are very popular. They are being used to design cottages and library-centers. They are one of the most ancient types and is still preferred due to the simple retro look that it can provide. Thanks to progress in technology, "engineered wood floors' have now become popular due to incorporated beneficial properties like water resistance. This is one of the main features that distinguishes such type of floorings from those that are made of natural wood. They are used to create beautiful kitchen decors and study areas.
Granite flooring have been used since ages. They are used to create geometric designs and patterns for bathrooms and kitchens. These floorings are made of solid, hard rock and hence are extremely durable.
Besides these types of flooring, there are many others that have gained attention during recent years. Vinyl flooring, ceramic flooring, terrazzo flooring and laminate flooring are being increasingly preferred. Vinyl floorings are the best option for those who have a limited budget. They can be stuck to the ground by pulling out the sticker that covers a self-adhesive layer on them.
Combination floorings are being used widely by designers nowadays due to their added benefits. One of the most popular types belonging to this category is the 'marbonite flooring'. This is a combination of marble and granite and hence includes the goodness of both the flooring types. They are available in a large variety of patterns and colors. Glass floorings are also being manufactured these days. But they are not very commonly used since they are brittle and fragile in nature. These are mostly used in combination with other types in museums or showrooms where certain exhibits are displayed since they cannot resist too much human activity. They can instead hold steady objects.
